Balks locks himself in a safe that belongs to Yuno's parents, which can only be unlocked by himself, Yuno's parents, and the real Yuno. Uryu, reasoning that Yuki can no longer eliminate Balks for her, begins to hunt him down. As he does so, he recounts how he lost his parents in the Middle East when he was a child and grew up under the constant threat of death. Meanwhile, Yuno frees Yuki's friends and goes to kill Kamado, but is stopped by Aru. In a tense duel between Uryu and Yuki, for the first time he sees his innocent child self in the latter and allows him to shoot her. Uryu then voluntarily destroys his journal to detonate a bomb triggered by her death, intending to blow up the safe door for Yuki. However, the door withstands the explosion. Yuno arrives, sends Yuki to destroy HOLON, and somehow manages to open the safe door and kill Balks. A few days later, dark whirlwinds appear throughout the city. In Deus's realm, Murmur is in a panic over the impending apocalypse coming faster than expected, when Kamado appears with Aru, who asks Deus if it is truly possible for his successor to restore the world to its former state.
