They choose a hunting cabin located 100 miles from civilization in the middle of winter, and their guide is rightly concerned that they won't make it, but they assure him that they are fine and to come back for them in a week. However, they soon regret their decision when they find out there is no electricity in the cabin. To keep their food from spoiling, they put their supplies outside in the cold, but animals eat them during the night. Somehow, they manage to survive a week, hungry, unshaven, and barely coherent, but due to a snowstorm, the guide does not return for them. They decide that they will have to hunt to survive further, but the boys can't bring themselves to shoot anything. Eventually, when a wild turkey enters the cabin, Alex rises to the occasion and shoots it. Jim says a prayer over the turkey dinner, which comforts Alex.
